  Whale Watching Hotspots

We have different kinds of spending our free time, some spend it by walking on the park, by baking cakes and other goodies, by playing with friends, by going to beach, hiking or even whale watching. With all these activities we will try to focus on whale watching since its somehow new to us and I haven’t tried it myself either.

Whale watching is been around since 1950’s in North America, back in the day there are lots or shall we say there are abundance of whales back then, since poaching is somehow at minimum during that time. There are several types of whales; Sperm, Blue, Grey, Fin, Orca, Humpback and the Beluga whale. All of these whales have their distinct features and characteristics that would easily differentiate them among others. But where can we see these whales today? I dig a little research and come up with the following whale watching hotspots:

Kaikoura, New Zealand

A town in New Zealand, that can be found specifically on the South island, Kaikoura attain the Green Globe Tourism Certification standard the first ever local authority to achieve one. The whales that are dominant in the area that you will see are the Giant Sperm Whales, but based on the season, you might also see pilot whales, blue whales and humpback whales which are migrating

Cape Town, South Africa

The best time to do whale watching on Cape Town is by the middle of August to middle of October, and the perfect place for it would be the False Bay. Feast your eyes on Bryde’s whales, Killer whales and humpback whales which are the most common whales that can be seen on Cape Town.

Cape Cod, US

Plymouth would be the ideal place to start your daytrip if you will be choosing Cape Cod to do whale watching. The Right Whale, Pilot whales and Fin whales are the most prominent whales around the area.

Tadoussac, Quebec

Tadoussac is a vital trading post by French back in the 17th century. The whales that you will see on this place are Beluga whales and the now endangered North Atlantic Right Whale (currently numbering on 250 only). If you are lucky you will be able to see blue whales, humpback and fin whales also.

Hervey Bay, Australia

Located in south Eastern Queensland in Australia, this whale watching spot in Australia is dubbed by many as the “Whale Watching Capital of the World”, the whales that frequent the area are the Humpback whales. If you are into Brisbane area however, you might stop by at Whale watching Brisbane for the perfect spot for whale watching in Brisbane Area.

Upon knowing these hotspots where we can see these wonderful creatures on their habitat where they move and act on their free will, I think by now we would take actions on how to conserve or protect those habitats in order for us to see those gentle giants for a long time.
