Search and Rescue with the help of Thermal Imaging

Our technology has come a long way, ever since the internet has been developed there are millions of new things had emerged to help us to make our work easier and convenient.

And among these things are thermal imaging devices, these devices can detect heat even in closed compartment or buildings.  This device is widely used in the field of medicine in which they use it to check for any anomalies inside our body that needs an immediate medical attention.

It is also use for the law enforcer’s safety, every delicate operation they might be doing, they see to it that they have with them thermal imagers to secure the area or place they will do the operations.

Industrial buildings or big companies used also thermal imagers to properly designate, place or maintain their water and gas pipes. They must be always sure that all of the above mentioned pipes are being taken care of since lives are at stake whenever an unprecedented accident may occur.

But for me, the big contribution of thermal imaging devices; are for search and rescue during accidents or natural disaster such as floods, landslide and earthquakes. I will try to specify below the use of the device in a search and rescue operation:

Earthquakes

We know that during an earthquake, a lot of building and structures at risk of falling into the ground, and most of the earthquakes occur without a warning. And sometimes many are trapped inside the building as earthquake erupts. And finding survivors among the rubble are a painstaking task especially for the rescuers, and that is where thermal imaging devices would come in handy.  The device can tracked or locate body heats amidst the pile of debris thus, making it easy to pinpoint the exact location of the survivor among the rubble.

Landslides

Landslides often occur whenever there is earthquake or typhoon. During earthquakes, lands on mountains shakes thus creating and imbalanced portion of the land o fall down below, same through happens during typhoon. Due to heavy rains the soil started to soften up and start to fall down. In the event like this, lucky are those who can evacuate before the disaster strikes, but for those who haven’t they might be find their selves trapped in the pile of soil. Rescuers would have a hard time finding the victims since they won’t be able to tracked the exact location and if they would use heavy equipment such as backhoe they might hit the spot where the victim is and do more damage rather than save her/him, thus, making the thermal imaging equipment ideal for this kind of job. Due to their heat seeking function they can track the body heat of the victims among the pile of soil and they can plan a more effective plan to save them.
